FLÅM RAILWAY

Experience one of the world’s most spectacular railway journeys and one of Norway’s most iconic attractions.

The Flåm Railway runs between the mountain station of Myrdal on the Bergen Railway and Flåm station, located at the innermost part of the Aurlandsfjord. During the 20-kilometre journey, descending approximately 865 metres in elevation, you will experience some of the wildest and most dramatic scenery Norway has to offer. Along the route, rivers carve through deep gorges, waterfalls cascade down steep mountainsides beneath snow-covered peaks, and remote mountain farms cling to the rugged slopes.

The Flåm Railway is one of the steepest standard-gauge railway lines in the world. Nearly 80 percent of the route has a gradient of 5.5%, meaning the train climbs one metre for every 18 metres travelled. The famous spiral tunnel, twisting in and out of the mountainside, stands as a remarkable example of the bold and skilful engineering that defines Norwegian railway history.

You can combine a trip on the Flåm Railway with hiking or cycling from Myrdal to Flåm.
